Personal: From here I want to analyze more types of art and eras. I would like to go to the Art Institute by the end of the break. I'll be taking pictures and doing a lot of thinking on the aspects of the art. I'd like to see if I can guess what era I'm looking at and see how the era influenced it.
Group: Over the break we will be thinking about how to move our project along. We need a change in direction.
School Improvement: I'll research the cost for certain companies and compare them over the break.

Pointillism Test Final Product
I finished my pointillism picture.
Here's the final product:
That's about it. I'm going to go back to researching now.
Here's the final product:
Personal Judgement: I think that this turned out alright. It could have been better, but I tried my best.
Judgement of difficulty: Pointillism is hard. You need to have some real patience to sit down and put little tiny dots everywhere. Not to mention if you want it to look like it's realistic in any way you need to think ahead a lot.

Important points: I remembered from art class that to create shading in pointillism you need to not only use another color, but place the dots closer together. This way you can create a gradual change from one to the other. While mine definitely isn't as gradual as it should be, it's an important thing to think about when doing pointillism.

New Research
Today I've decided to research a topic off of my list that interests me.
Research Topic: Pointillism
Past knowledge of the topic: I know that pointillism is the use of small dots to create a bigger picture. I can't think of the name of it but I know of a painting that is very famous and is used for pointillism. I learned about pointillism in either 7th or 8th grade (more likely 7th) and took a picture of my sister to turn into a pointillism picture. It was a difficult way of doing art in my opinion. It takes a lot of time and precision to create art like that, I know from experience. I can't imagine how hard it is to do it for a real painting, as opposed to a marker drawing in art class.
RESEARCH
What is Pointillism?: "The theory or practice in art of applying small strokes or dots of color to a surface so that from a distance they blend together" (Merriam Webster).
The painting to the right is called Sunday on La Grande Jatte. It was created by George Seurat, and became one of his most famous works. This is the painting that I had seen before. I was taught about pointillism using this piece of art. While it may look like a completely whole picture, if you look closely at it every bit of the picture is created with small dots. The picture here takes a closer look at a woman from the painting, near the ground where her skirt ends. You can see all of the miniature points that make up the skirt.
I'll update this soon and post more of what I find ASAP.

Progressing through the new plan
So, as I said last time I wrote on here, I've come up with a new plan.
Around two days ago I looked up eras and time periods in art. I found two links that seemed to have an accurate list of time periods, at least as a base. I'm going to look into them all.
Here are the links to the site with lists of eras:
-http://arthistory.about.com/cs/reference/a/art_history_one.htm
From these I created a table with five columns (Time Period/ Culture, Description of the time period, Major Events During that Time/ for that culture, Tools Used, and Subject of Art). In that table I'll be recording what I find about each time period so that I can compare it all later.
I believe that's it... I'm off to begin my research now. I'll post what I find soon.

Hello again!
Hi everyone.
I wrote this a while ago, and I've been updating it for a while as I do research. I just had this realization though, that I've been approaching this all wrong. I haven't been thinking of this correctly. What I want to know is how major events and time periods have changed art. With that I need to be looking at all of the big events in different places. I've been too general. I decided to post this blog anyways, since I put the work into it. But I have a new idea. I've created a table where I can write down what subjects were popular during which time period, along with what tools were being used often, and what major events happened during that time. Later I can go back and analyze what I've written.
I suppose my new project is to look into time periods and read up on major events in all sorts of cultures. Then I can move on with the art.
Here's what I had done before I reached this conclusion:
What I found is a little bit confusing. I fully understand it, but it still confuses me. The link led to another list of links, all of which seem to lead to other sites that have information. It mostly confuses me in a way that I don't know where to start. I guess I'll just read the first and then move onto the next and keep going. It's going to take a while though.
The obvious is the statement is that the stone age art is art done with stone tools. This age began over 2 million years ago with the earliest of humans.

So I've been a little too busy with the group project to do much research on this topic recently, so I wanted to examine the first link that I had found useful today.
So, the third link on my list of links is the first one I found that looked useful in any way.
It's called Art History Resources.
The first link I clicked on is Prehistoric Art: General.
| This is a prehistoric statue. |
So, the first link. Stone age art.
http://www.artlex.com/ArtLex/s/stoneage.html
![]() |
| This a prehistoric cave painting. |
There are three periods of time that the stone age is devided into: the Paleolithic period, the Mesolithic period, and the Neolithic period. There are more links relating specifically to the different periods back on the original site, so I hope to look at those later.
The next link was about prehistoric art in Europe. I didn't find it to be very easy to use, and it kind of confused me.
http://www.europreart.net/
That's where I was, and where I am now. I'll update again soon.

Review of Links
Today I started looking at the links that I posted yesterday.
Starting with the first link on the list, I found that it had pretty much nothing to offer for me. It was a link to the Art History department at Chicago University, but no information was provided and I couldn't really do research there.
The moment I clicked on the second link I realized that it was the same art history department at Chicago University, so that was no help.
The third link looks very useful. It's a list of resources for different periods and cultures of art history. I'm definitely going to look back at it.
The fourth link was about.com. I'm not exactly sure why I put that on there, but it does have catagorized art so I may use it as something to look at but not to exactly take as research.
The fifth link was a website that doesn't look very reliable. Again I may look into it but I'm not sure if I can take it seriously.
The sixth link looks like it will help out a lot. It's a time line of art history. It could be perfect.
The seventh link again looks helpful. This one seems more like I would be looking at art instead of reading, which could allow for me to create my own interpretations of it.
The eighth link is to University of Michigan, the school of art and design. It interests me because it seems like school that I'd like to go to. It also has information that could be useful.
The ninth link is a list of other websites about art history. Again, could be useful.
The tenth link is another college, and doesn't seem to have anything interesting or helpful to me. It seems to be more aimed towards students there.
The eleventh link is a library book. I don't even know why I put that on there. It could be useful if it was actually the library that I went to. Really where was my mind that day?
The twelth link looks helpful.
The thirteenth and final link is another university website.
So, for my own reference, these are links that I need to look back at:
http://arthistory.about.com/
www.arthistory.net
http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/
http://smarthistory.khanacademy.org/
http://www.umich.edu/~motherha/

Links
At the beginning of the year I made a list of links that applied to 'art history'. I realized that I should probably post them here, so this blog is going to be links that I have. I'm not sure that they are all relevent, but here they are:

What I've been up to
This blog is going to be incredibly short. I realize that I missed a day, sorry.
I don't have much to say right now, I've been kind of overwhelmed and working hard on other things so I haven't been able to research. I will most definitely work on it tomorrow.
That's it.

New look, new approach.
As you may have noticed, I changed the look of my blog. Nothing big, it just fits me a bit more. I feel like my blog finally expresses me, so that's good.
As for my new approach, I've decided that I'm definitely not posting enough. To tell you the honest truth it's because I have been very, very busy recently. I was sick for a while, and even though I had the technology to post I couldn't motivate myself while hacking up a lung. I've been back for a week, but I've been making up what I missed for the entirety of that week. Truthfully when I don't have a deadline for this blog it kind of takes a back seat to everything else that is needed soon. So I apologize.
I've kind of gone off track here. What my point was is I'm setting a deadline. My deadline: Every day by the end of the night. I'm going to continually post, once a night, no matter how little I have to say. I need to force myself or else it won't get done. It's not even a matter of grades, it's just that I really want to do this the best I can. I may start video blogging, but I have to check into the technology of it so we'll see.
I have to add one more thing I'm going to think over. I have been doing a lot of art recently, but none of it is related to this sort of thing. It's all either doodles, comics, or anime. I can post it if it's relevent. I'm just not sure that it is. Any feedback?
So, now I'm going to go learn about art and such.
I'll be posting another blog tonight about what I learned if I get the time. If only there were more minutes in the day...

Animation
I want to start by apologizing for not blogging for so long. I've been busy, to the point where I don't have time for much of anything but homework and family.
I got sick last week. All week long. I know that isn't much of an excuse considering the technology I have but I find it very hard to motivate myself when I feel the way that I did. Again, sorry.
So now, to the point of this blog.
I have decided on another way to contribute to our project, with the help of my group members.
I am now embarking on a journey to learn the history of animation! (Hooray.)
Along with the history of airplanes and flying things (which interests me very little and seems like it would occupy about a week before it ran out of information) I will be looking into the first types of animating and cartoons. We will then incorperate it into our project by making ads for the jetpack. It seems like the only possible way to use animation and art history.
So there you go.
Now, what I've found so far:
Today I used wikipedia to get a general background on the subject I'm studying. I know that wikipedia isn't exactly reliable... but I think it would be beneficial to have some sort of idea what I'm getting into.
According to the page, animation dates back to the Paleolithic times, which is the time of the cavemen (I don't think cavemen is the correct term... but I'm not exactly an expert in prehistoric times so I'll go with it.) Looking at the drawings at the drawings that were done during that time, it is clear that some sort of animation was intended.
I think this picture found on a 5,200-year old bowl in Iran is interesting. The effort put into animating without the tools we have today is impressive.
Another example I found was the Anatomical Studies of the Muscles of the Neck, Shoulder, Chest, and Arm by Leonardo da Vinci, which is again an attempt at animation.

The problem with these attempts at simple animation is that they can't actually move. It's still interesting to look at what was put into animating in the very beginning.
I suppose I'm done blogging for now... I think I've written enough that anyone reading is thouroughly bored by what I find interesting.
Overall I think looking to previous animation will help us out. Maybe I'll look at the history of ads and propaganda too because I think it could help us find the most effective strategies. So that's it.

Art A New History
So, I got my book.
The other day I went to the library (after researching art history books that they had and deciding I would rather just go and look on the shelves) and went to the art and culture section. I was wandering down the aisle with my sister and came across a book I had seen during my brief research session: Art A New History.
The benefit: it is perfect. I mean in the table of contents there's a list of different time periods that are in it. There's art and history and pretty much exactly what I need.
The problem: It's about the heaviest book I've ever had the pleasure of carrying around with me in school. I mean besides the crazy thick text books we carry (Not that I've had to carry those this year. That's one of the benefits of the IPad: I can just use the online book).
Anyways, I'm pretty excited about this. It seems interesting (even though my arms are dying because I'm carrying it with me everywhere. I'm contemplating buying it online... that's another place the IPad could come in handy. Not sure.
I think I'm rambling (or at least my brain is).
Bye

Book (Very short blog)
I'm not sure how often I should blog but today I'm trying to find a book to use.
I looked on the website of the library and found quite a few. I think I'll just go tonight and find one.
I feel bad for not getting one but I truthfully didn't have the time. My mom works and most of the time by the time she's home the library is closed. I know I'll be able to make it there tonight so I'm set to go.
That's about it for today. I'll be reading by tomorrow.

Art History
So, what do I know about the history of art?
Well, I've been interested in art since I was little. Being an artist is the first thing I can remember ever wanting to be. Ever since I started school art class has been a place I loved to go. If I could take another elective I would jump at the chance to join an art class or design, something like that.
The thing about learning art history is that no one really teaches it to you in grade school or junior high. You do get little bits of info- I know who Picasso is and I can tell you what catagory certain pieces are in- but still you never get the whole thing. I want to know what art was around during different time periods to see how the events of that age effected the subjects and style. Nothing like that has ever come up for me.
I would also like to try my hand at some of the styles, being someone who loves art like I do.
Back on topic, I don't really know much about art history in general.
I would like to look into the types of art during controversial times and from other countries. I'm curious what an event can do to the art people are creating.
I would also like to learn about different designs for planes and jets and things like that in the past to help with the group's mission for the year.
That's it for today!

The first ever awesome blog post of mine.
So here we are.
I don't exactly know how to write a blog. I mean, I've tried before. I had a blog on deviantart (where I post all of my doodles and art attempts) but I kept forgetting to update, mostly because no one was reading and it didn't seem like it was worth my time to write something no one was going to read. But now I'm done with 3 sentences so I think it's going well. I've always found it easier to talk about my life to random people on the internet. Face to face interaction isn't for me. Which is probably why I got an I instead of an E on the typology test we took. Introverted instead of extroverted. It's not that I don't like people, I'm just a strong believer in only talking when you have something interesting or valuable to add to a conversation. I typically don't. I spend my days watching anime and reading. My life isn't exactly interesting. It's not un-interesting but it's not something that most people would care about reading. I'd rather draw a picture than go out with friends.
That's kind of how I work. I'm barely ever totally disagree with anything.
I feel like I'm talking too much.
On the topic of our group: Our leader is abusing his power. Not really but Bendita told me to write this. We're actually working well together, even though we found it kind of difficult to come up with a mission statement.
We're going to build a jetpack. I don't exactly know the specifics or how we could even do it but apparantly that's our goal for the year. I'm really happy to be doing the marketing and things like it. I'm also planning on looking into the history of the airplane and how things like that are designed.
